Dessert Pan vs Griddle Plate: What’s the Difference?

2023-06-02

To make sure we use kitchen tools correctly, it's important to get some terminology straight. A Dessert Pan has a lot in common with a Griddle Plate; However, there are some key differences that mean the two are not interchangeable.

Technically, a Dessert Pan is a Griddle Plate; However, not all Dessert Pans are considered Griddle Plate.

Generally speaking, Dessert Pans tend to come in many different shapes. They are usually much deeper than a Griddle Plate, which is helpful when you make your batter. For this reason, if the recipe you're making calls for a Dessert Pans, it can't easily be replaced with another Griddle Plate.

Take the Bundt Cake Pan for example. This type of Dessert Pan has a very specific purpose in baking and cannot be considered a Griddle Plat. In many cases, it may not be good to use a Griddle Plate if a recipe calls for a Dessert Pan.

Dessert Pan vs Pizza Pan : What's the difference?
A Pizza Pan is another baking tool, often confused with a dim sum plate. As the name suggests, a Pizza Pan is ideal for baking pizza. Unlike Dessert Pan, Pizza Pans are usually round. This makes it easier to make the pizza, and it has a handle for easy transfer of the pizza.

While you can use a Pizza Pan to make cookies and desserts, you can't use a Pizza Pan to make perfect recipes. For example, if you try to roast a chicken in a Pizza Pan, you might find that the juices from the meat drip into the oven and the meat dries out as a result. All in all, these two kitchen tools are not easily interchangeable.
